I’m Cassie (you may know me as @sharkbatesbookshelf) and for years I have been looking for a job that combines my strategic communications, editing, and relationship management experience with my love of reading and supporting indie authors. When the federal government started slashing jobs and contracts and I suddenly found myself without a job for the first time since college I decided to create it myself!
Like it says above, I’ve been a voracious reader my whole life and I’ve been active in the bookish community since 2018. I am the co-host of Highkey Obsessed Podcast and I love geeking out over history, TV, and - of course - books.
I am here to put the skills I’ve gained over nearly 20 years to help authors get their stories in front of as many readers as possible.

We believe in full transparency in all things. You will never find surprise charges or hidden fees on your invoice. If additional services are necessary beyond the initial agreed upon package, they will be discussed in advance and signed off on before moving forward.
Manuscript Review (first) / Proofreading (last)

Manuscript Review: A high level review and general feedback on your manuscript. Includes identification of major plot holes or inconsistencies.
Proofreading: Final pass before formatting to correct any mistakes and typos missed in the Copy Edit as well as any formatting issues (e.g. orphan words and hyphen stacks).
Line Edit (includes Dev Edit)
$.01 / word (100,000 words = $1,000)
Includes everything in the Developmental Edit, plus line by line review of sentence, paragraph, and scene structure, identification of repetition and inconsistencies, correction of typos, and suggestions for improvements to individual words and phrases.
Developmental Edit
$.005 / word (100,000 words = $500)
A full evaluation of the plot, characters, pacing, world. Includes editorial letter, in-line comments and suggestions, and a one-hour consultation (phone or video).
Copy Edit
$.0075 / word (100,000 words = $750)
Correct typos, fix grammar, streamline punctuation, fill in missing words, ensure uniform style and format (use of italics, etc.).
